Seafood
Seafood is part of the supply chain in our pet food and pet snacks business. Unfortunately, in recent years, there have been reports about the use of forced labor through the practice of transshipping in certain areas of the world – transshipping involves the movement of fish from one ship to another at sea. We require all our suppliers to provide us with appropriate legal documentation to validate they are not sourcing their seafood in this unethical manner.

Zero-tolerance policy for illegal transshipments at sea and strictly ban the practice throughout our supply chain

Due to the social and environmental risks involved in the palm oil supply chain, we are committed to continued monitoring of our own supply chain.

As of December 31, 2022, we achieved our goal to source 100% of our direct purchases of shell eggs, liquid eggs and egg ingredients from cage-free hens for our pet food & snacks and frozen handhelds & spreads categories.
We have extended our commitment to source 100% of our direct purchases of shell eggs, liquid eggs and egg ingredients from cage-free hens for our recently acquired sweet baked snacks business by the end of 2027. To help support continued progress on this commitment, we have established an interim goal to convert 50% of our direct purchases by 2026.
We also indirectly purchase a small quantity of eggs that are (i) in finished products produced for us by contract manufacturing partners or (ii) included as an ingredient of an ingredient we purchase. We are currently exploring options for converting our indirect egg supply to cage-free.
