Establishing the Next Generation Finance Department at Smucker

The leaders of our Company reflect the objectives we have set for the organization and make them relevant to the specific work our employees do each day. As I consider our finance department, I believe it is critical that my leadership team and I not only provide a clear roadmap to achieve our near-term objectives but that we establish a vision that will guide us toward our ultimate aspirations.  

Our department is committed to being a steward of financial compliance and a trusted business partner, providing strategic advice and delivering performance in support of the Company’s strategic priorities. And to do that we have to execute with excellence and agility, offering a competitive advantage through value-added financial insights that advance strategic decision making.

In considering our longer-term aspirations, I am focused on building on the great progress we have made to be an even more progressive finance organization. One that is well positioned to maintain the high expectations we have established for fiscal responsibility and oversight while also introducing new capabilities and ways of thinking.

While ambitious, I am confident in our ability to achieve these aspirations. To do so we must:

• Attract and retain top finance talent, invest in career development and skill building, and foster continuous learning and creative curiosity
• Support our organizational commitment to improve diversity and foster an inclusive and equitable workplace
• Drive prioritization and best-in-class execution through investments in technology, an enhanced focus on automation and analytics, and streamlined reporting and processes
• Optimize data and resources to advance strategic decision making, improving profitability and cost discipline throughout the organization, while sharpening our focus on growth opportunities and portfolio optimization

I am excited to be on this journey to realize the next generation finance department with my leadership team and all our dedicated finance employees.
